Requesting persistent chat in Skype for Business/Lync 2013 for Windows

Persistent chat creates topic-based discussion rooms that persist over time where messages are saved, so new and old chat room participants can see all the chat history at any time. If you use Skype for Business on Windows you may create and manage persistent chat rooms by submitting a support request with the following information:

  • The department, team, or project requesting the chat room
  • Name for the chat room
  • Faculty and staff to give access to (may use Exchange Distribution Lists)
  • Privacy setting

    • Open - Can be searched for, and read by anyone with a Collaboration Services account
    • Closed - Can be searched for, but only members may read posts
    • Secret - Cannot be searched for, and only members may read post
