Changing the email alias of your @northwestern.edu (Exchange) account

When your @northwestern (Exchange) account is initially created, it has a default address of "firstname.lastname@northwestern.edu", where "firstname.lastname" is the alias. If you are faculty, staff, or a Feinberg student, you can change your alias. Email sent to your previous alias will forward to the new address.

Faculty and Staff

If you are a regular staff or faculty member, you can change your @northwestern.edu email address yourself via NUValidate:
  1. Log in to NU Validate at http://nuvalidate.northwestern.edu with your NetID and NetID password.
  2. Select Edit Online Directory Information.
  3. Enter your desired email alias in the Alias field and click Submit. If the alias you want is already being used by someone else, you will receive an error message.;
Your Sent From address in Exchange is automatically updated to reflect your new email alias. This change should be reflected in Outlook Web App within 15 minutes. Note that if you are use Outlook 2016/2013 for Windows or Outlook 2016 for macOS, you will need to remove and recreate your account within Outlook to reflect this change.

Students and Temporary Staff

If you are a student or temporary staff member with a @northwestern.edu address, you can't self-edit your email alias. Instead you must send an email request to consultant@northwestern.edu that includes your current alias, desired alias, and NetID.
