Installing, Using, and Uninstalling Symantec Endpoint Protection on macOS
Step-by-step instructions on how to install, run, use, and uninstall Symantec Endpoint Protection for macOS.
Installation Instructions
- Download Symantec Endpoint Protection for Mac.
- When the "File Download" window appears, click the Save button and select a folder where the installer file will be downloaded. After the download is complete, double-click the Symantec Endpoint Protection.dmg file. A window similar to the following will appear:
- Click Agree & Install. A window similar to the following will appear once installation is complete:
- Type a user name that has administrative privileges in the Name: field.
- Type the password for the user name entered above in the Password or phrase: field.
- Click OK. If you are successful, A window similar to the following will appear once installation is complete:
- Click Close & Restart to finish the installation and restart your computer.
Manually Running LiveUpdate
- Connect to the Internet.
- Launch LiveUpdate. A window similar to the following will appear:
- Click Update Now. Once the update is completed, you will see a notice that your software is up to date.
- Click Quit.
Manually Scheduling a LiveUpdate Session
- Launch Live Update. A window similar to the following will appear:
- Click Settings > LiveUpdate tab:
- Select Daily from the Set a Frequency drop down menu.
- Select a time of the day when you want to update your virus definitions under the Set the time: section.
Note: Try to select a time when you are not using your computer (such as lunch time), otherwise you may notice that your computer is slow when updates are being run.
- Click Apply Changes to apply and save your changes.
Scheduling a Virus Scan
- Launch Symantec Endpoint Protection. A window similar to the following will appear:
- Click on Configure under Scheduled Scans. A window similar to the following will appear:
- Click on Add scheduled scans... A window similar to the following will appear:
- Type a description for your scan into the Enter a name for the task: field.
- Select Daily from the Set a Frequency drop down menu.
- Select a time of the day when you want to perform the scan under the Set the time: section.
Note: Try to select a time when you are not using your computer (such as lunch time), otherwise you may notice that your computer is slow when scans are being run.
- Click OK, then Done.
