Installing and Using Symantec Endpoint Protection on macOS

Step-by-step instructions on how to install, run, and use Symantec Endpoint Protection for macOS.

 Installation Instructions

  1. Click the download link on the Symantec Norton AntiVirus for Macintosh page. When the "File Download" window appears, click the Save button and select a folder where the installer file will be downloaded. After the download is complete, double-click the Symantec Endpoint Protection.dmg file. A window similar to the following will appear:

  2. Click Agree & Install. A window similar to the following will appear once installation is complete:

    1. Type a user name that has administrative privileges in the Name: field. 
    2. Type the password for the user name entered above in the Password or phrase: field.
  3.  Click OK. If you are successful, A window similar to the following will appear once installation is complete:

  4. Click Close & Restart to finish the installation and restart your computer.

Manually Running LiveUpdate

  1. Connect to the Internet.
  2. Launch LiveUpdate. A window similar to the following will appear:

  3. Click Update Now. Once the update is completed, you will see a notice that your software is up to date.
  4. Click Quit.

Manually Scheduling a LiveUpdate Session

  1. Launch Live Update. A window similar to the following will appear:

  2. Click Settings LiveUpdate tab:

    1. Select Daily from the Set a Frequency drop down menu. 
    2. Select a time of the day when you want to update your virus definitions under the Set the time: section. 

      Note: Try to select a time when you are not using your computer (such as lunch time), otherwise you may notice that your computer is slow when updates are being run.

  3. Click Apply Changes to apply and save your changes.

Scheduling a Virus Scan

  1. Launch Symantec Endpoint Protection. A window similar to the following will appear:

  2. Click on Configure under Scheduled Scans. A window similar to the following will appear:

  3. Click on Add scheduled scans... A window similar to the following will appear:

    1. Type a description for your scan into the Enter a name for the task: field. 
    2. Select Daily from the Set a Frequency drop down menu. 
    3. Select a time of the day when you want to perform the scan under the Set the time: section.

  4. Click OK, then Done.
