Box Migration - Known Limitations

There are two known issues with the SkySync migration software that is being used by the Box Migration Project Team to move data from Box into OneDrive and SharePoint. Folders or Files affected by either known issue will NOT be migrated. Affected users will receive notification post-migration of data that was not moved over due to these known issues. Users will be responsible for self-migrating this data.

Box Folders containing 10,000 or more items.

PREVENTION: Before the Box account migration, rearrange your Box account so a single folder contains less than 10,000 items (files or other folders).

REMEDIATION: After migration, users will be provided with a report showing flagged items. Users with accounts that receive this error will need to remediate the source content by moving items into sub-folders until each directory contains 10,000 items or less.

Recommendations from the project team: The file counts at the root level folders are cumulative – if the count is greater than 10,000 there is a problem. Account owners should walk through the sub-folders to locate any which contain > 10,000 documents and rearrange them into other folders.

File paths in Box with more than 400 characters

WORKAROUND: Content owners need to shorten the file names and/or the folder path names and manually move the content to OneDrive.

COMMENTS: File paths with more than 400 characters exceed the maximum character limit in OneDrive.

Recommendations from the project team: To try to see if there are issues, review how long folder names are, how many levels of nesting are in the account, review the file naming convention used for documents.
